How to Find the Wedding Dresses that Fit Perfectly
Online shopping saves a lot of time, but when it comes to wedding dresses, online shopping often leads to size issues. But getting the right size and fit is extremely important as far as wedding dress is concerned. However, the right fit is no more a big deal when you know the size. Most of the time, brides do not rely on your usual size. They tend to pick a large size and alter it from the local seamstress. But different brands have different size charts, and if you know how to take the measurements, you will be able to find a dress that fits in perfectly.
Size Does Matter
Not all brands are of the same size. A “large” size of a particular brand might be “medium” for the other. It means you cannot just go to the boutique and pick one size. It is important to find out your actual size. Many brides prefer buying semi-stitched gowns, so that they can fit it according to their body size. If the dress is unaltered (if you are buying a dress which is a size bigger than your actual size), make sure there is an inch of extra seam left. This extra seam will be stitched by the seamstress when you are looking for a body-hugging fit. Keeping an extra inch of seam makes sure that you get a proper fit without making you feel uncomfortable.
Measurement of the Bust Line
Pull your measuring tape around your back and up to the front, at the level of the fullest part of your bust. Keep the tape leveled in a straight line and do not make it too tight. Make sure that you are able to put a finger between the tape and your body. And most importantly do not hold your breath. Instead, relax and breath normally. This way you will get the actual size of your bust line, which further helps you a get a perfectly fitting outfit.
Size of your Waistline
The waist area is not just around your belly button or across your hipbones, rather it is the smallest part of your torso. Just like you did with your bust, pass the measuring tape along your waist. Don’t make it too tight, breath normally and remember to check if there’s the space to fit a finger between the tape and the waist. It’s the best to hold the measuring tape in the area where you want the dress or the skirt to fit.
Measurement of the hip
Stand straight and pull the tape across the widest part of the hips and fullest part of your bottom. Again, don’t make it too tight, you should be able to fit a finger in order to be comfortable to sit in the dress of your wedding day.
Measurement of the central part of the collarbone to the dress hemline
It’s the most vital element when you are looking for a customised outfit. This part is usually called hollow to hem, which is measured from center of your collarbone (hollow) to the bottom (hem). Wear a flat shoe while taking this measurement as it would help to keep your body straight. We highly suggest asking your styling assistant about the hollow to hem measurements.
Last but not the least
Getting the actual size can help you pick the right wedding dress. You can follow the tips mentioned here and find the right wedding dress that fits you perfectly. If you are planning to get your dress stitched, your seamstress will do things for you. But brides who prefer a readymade outfit can use this measurement guide for a right pick.
